We will be holding our scheduled half-day walk in Krimgold Park Saturday, June 6.
The group will meet at 8:00 a.m. in the lower parking lot just inside the Park entrance on Woodbine Road. Please bring masks to wear during the walk, and remember that unrelated participants will be expected to practice social distancing within the group.
The leader of this walk is David Smith, who is our County Coordinator for the Maryland-DC Breeding Bird Atlas 3 project. The original focus of the outing was to learn about the Atlas project, which began on January 1, 2020; to gain insights about how to identify evidence of breeding birds; and to document breeding birds from the Krimgold Park Atlas block. That focus still stands. But since this is the first Club activity we’ve held for several months, and it is the last in the 2019/2020 Club season, the focus is really broadened to letting us get together to enjoy the Park, the company, and the birds we’ll be seeing.
To that end, and since the size of any group is still limited to 10 persons, Tom Miller has volunteered to lead a second group in the walk at Krimgold. That will allow 18 of us to join David and Tom on Saturday morning. Although we always welcome non-Club members on our bird walks, I believe that we should give Club members preference in signing up for this walk. We’ll open sign-up to non-members on Thursday, so please let David know as soon as you can that you plan to attend. You can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org or 443-995-4108.
Due to COVID-19 a decision has been made to cancel ALL other Carroll County Bird Club activities until further notice
The Carroll County Bird Club was founded in 1979. Early meetings were held in members’ homes. Today, the club meets at the Carroll Nonprofit Center which is located at 225 Clifton Boulevard in Westminster, Maryland.
Meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month except in the months of June, July, and August. In January, a holiday party takes the place of the regular meeting. Meetings begin at 7:00pm with a brief period for socializing, followed by a guest speaker.
The club also sponsors field trips throughout the year. These may be to local birding spots or on occasion to more exotic locales in other parts of the country.
